I'm going to open a gym!
It's true! And, after a long time searching and negotiating and learning a lot about architecture, zoning, financing, and markets (I am a researcher after all!), we landed on 6711 Airport Highway. We will occupy the suite in the back.
The space is perfect. The address is Holland, Ohio, but it is seconds off the 475 exit at State Rt. 2 (Airport Highway), so very easy access. And, we'll share a parking lot with Starbucks!
The physical space will be called The Movement: Fitness and Wellness. The main space will be a brightly lit, open, drop-in gym space with cardio equipment, cable machines, weights, and other strength training equipment. Off the main space, there will be 2 large classrooms for a variety of fitness classes (cardio drumming, yoga, strength training, etc.). We are lucky that the space we found is big enough to develop a full Wellness Suite to accompany our fitness services! So, we're also planning for a sauna, cold plunge tub, and massage space. All the bathrooms and dressing rooms will be gender-neutral.
More than anything, I want this space to feel comfortable to all, but especially inviting to the folks that are weary of gyms. I want a gym where:
middle aged women are seen as the fierce Queens they are
trans people can walk into a gym bathroom without (added) anxiety, and even find a gender-affirming personal trainer
disabled folks can enjoy their bodies, rather than how told to fix their bodies
fat folks can work out in fucking peace :-)
where both your white grandma, a Black feminist, and a progressive gym-bro may all share a cold-pressed juice after their Strength Training class.
If this sounds like utopia to you too, stay tuned. This space is gonna take some work, but with my amazing husband, energetic collaborators, and all you cheering us on, I'm hoping we'll be open for business in the summer of 2026.
